Thinking about the cost of being persistently aware of global news about which we can have no input, involvement or influence.

There seems to be mass spell cast over us by the media implying that to not know about every single thing that is happening on the surface of the earth (or in outer space for that matter) means we are ignorant and ill informed.

The most we can do is have an opinion. And if we’re really honest, opinions, for the most part, are a complete waste of time and energy. Energy and time far better spent engaging in local spheres of activity where we can have direct and real influence and involvement.

Just because we can know about every single event happening anywhere doesn’t mean we should know or even need to know.

The most pernicious phrase added to speculative news stories is: ‘Should we be worried?’ Unless you can have a demonstrative direct affect then the answer is always a resounding ‘No!’
