If we do not accept the existence of archetypes, reading ancient myths and fairy tales can be very helpful because these stories came spontaneously from people who had not studied psychology. The stories came straight out of their unconscious and, therefore, show us how the unconscious works unimpeded by conscious intervention.
There’s a kind of wisdom that only arises automatically as time passes that no amount of learning or practice can induce. No shortcuts. There’s no substitute for the experience of life lived.
Set off early and made it in to work this morning. Many roads still flooded and closed but managed to crawl through some shallow standing water on my way in. My reward? Two bacon and egg rolls and a cup of tea.

Trump is not Hitler. He had a plan.
Trump is The Joker. An agent of chaos.
Our punishments are strong and unequivocal. Our preventions are weak and paltry. The whole idea of punishment is irrational. Why? Because everything …
Hang him from the highest tree
No work today. Roads completely flooded in multiple places. The brook running high and fast too.

It’s weird stepping outside into 15 degree warmth this evening when only yesterday it was -2 degrees.
And the brook is beginning to rage brown as the rain continues to fall.
Twelve hour shift tomorrow. I wonder if the roads will flood overnight again as a few weeks ago.
I see and hear a great deal of noise, panic and hysteria and very little wisdom. Sometimes the appropriate action is small, ordinary and modest yet in aggregate adds up to something greater than the sum of all the isolated acts.
At this moment of all moments we must resist the urge to react to hastily. The change underway is so profound and seismic that only time can birth the appropriate response.
For my own part I know that I will say what I say when I say it and do what I do when I do it – and not before.
So Bluesky is all the rage now as people leave Twitter/ X in the hope that human nature won’t follow. Good luck with that.
I’m pretty much done with social media as was. Bluesky is the new boss, same as the old boss. Blogging like this on Wordpress or similar and showing up in the Fediverse feels about right.
RSS is still my go to method for keeping up with stuff. The new Reeder app is excellent for this as it lets you follow RSS, Fediverse, YouTube, Podcasts, Reddit etc. all in one seamless timeline.
Have fun on Bluesky while it lasts…
The Heart says, ‘Enough is enough. What I want, I have.’ The Head says, ‘What’s the plan? What’s next?’ The Manosphere says, ‘Stay hungry! Fight, Fighter, fight!’ The Tao says, “He who knows that enough is enough will always have enough.”
Notes on enough
The experience of suffering is no less significant than that of liberation. The experience of confusion is no less necessary than that of clarity. The experience of chaos is not inferior to that of harmony. The experience of separation is no less sacred than that of oneness.

For a time, words may encourage and inspire, but if you cling too long to a teaching, any teaching, it will blind you to your own life, your own being, your own truth.

It is not what happens but the way it happens.
There are infinite manifestations of drinking a glass of water, chopping an onion, sweeping the floor or sitting doing nothing.
Some years back, Charlotte Joko Beck was asked by a reporter whether, after all her years of spiritual practice, she had eliminated her neuroses.
Joko said, "No, I haven't - but now they're funny."
This is a test post from Wordpress on the web.
It seems like the only way to get #tags through to the Fediverse is to do this:
#tags #Fediverse #notright #fail #error #ohwell
Not what I want to do at all.
Very odd. I have two Wordpress blogs both of which are identically hooked up to the Fediverse. One of them posts it’s Wordpress tags to the Fediverse and the other one doesn’t. I have no idea why. 🤷♂️
And looking back at older posts from one of the blogs, the posts on the Fediverse used to include a link back to the Wordpress post but more recent posts don’t. More weirdness. But, hey, maybe that’s the Fediverse for you.
Nothing to see here. Just another #tags test.
Looking at the recent election in the USA it’s hard not to get caught up in the all pervasive hysteria both in traditional media and on social media.
When I venture to see what’s going on I tend to wonder, slack jawed, at the seismic shift taking place right underneath well, everything.
Up is down, left is right, every previous norm is back to front. The world is different now. There is no way back. To change course will mean a further, new and different course again, not going back to the future.
This is happening and I wonder how we far we have to go before a genuine alternative emerges.
Just as the right (whatever that means now) has prevailed with a motley crew of misfits, so the left (whatever that will come to mean) must find a genuinely new and authentic voice that can be heard to which the majority of people can actually relate.
Good luck to us all.
