If you must hold on,
hold lightly
And when it’s time,
let go
Zen is feeling life not feeling something about life.

I think I’m paraphrasing but you get the point.
This pretty much sums up where I’m at right now…
It’s over, the “buddhas and patriarchs” disease
That once gripped my chest.
Now I’m just an ordinary man
With a clean slate.
I’ve recently started using the new (improved) Reeder app.

What I like about it is that it blurs the boundaries between content sources by allowing you to follow accounts across a broad spectrum of the (publicly available) social web including: RSS, YouTube, podcasts, Mastodon, Bluesky, Reddit, Flickr and a few others too.
You just forget what was posted to what network allowing you to simply enjoy all your feeds and follows in one (very nice) timeline interface.
It seems like it’s stolen a march on Icon Factory’s Project Tapestry.
No ontology in the history of humankind has been or is more metaphysical than materialism. Unlike all spiritual or religious ontologies ... the objective realm of materialism is, by definition, forever outside experience. It is pure abstraction. ... All the properties we attribute to reality - like solidity, palpability, concreteness - are qualities of experience and, as such, not applicable to the real world of materialism.

The true, hidden origin of the so-called 'Hard Problem of Consciousness'

Philosophers of mind talk much about the so-called 'Hard Problem of Consciousness.' But is it a real, objective problem to be solved, or…

We get what we get when we get it.
To celebrate his blog’s 30th birthday I’ve started following Dave Winer’s Scripting News again, as well as his new Wordpress/ Fediverse ‘node’ Daveverse.
He’s very excited about having a blog that is automattically (sic) part of the Fediverse via ActivityPub.
He’s working on a web writing tool called WordLand that is hooked up to Wordpress.
Dave doesn’t think Automattic knows what they have in giving every Wordpress blog the ability to be its own Fediverse account. I think they know exactly what they’re doing.

Currently re-watching Gomorrah (La Serie) for the umpteenth time. It’s one of the few series that bears repeated viewing, alongside The Wire and Succession.
Had to put it on again having recently returned from Naples roughly 30 years since my last visit. A truly incredible city. Imagine a fifteen hundred year old New York.

This is Toast. She’s 15 years old. Her current features include arthritis, thyroid problems, deafness and a 50 metre walking range.
She’s my only son’s furry sister and when she goes will leave us all bereft.
Funny things pets.
I’ve no idea what I’m going to be posting here and that’s fine.
Here’s a snap of the aurora my wife took last night.

Hello world 👋
